Job Summary

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the electrical design, layout, and documentation of custom industrial control panels and automation systems. This role supports engineered-to-order panel builds by translating customer requirements into accurate, manufacturable designs that meet applicable codes, UL standards, and company best practices. This position works closely with panel shop technicians, engineering, and sales teams to deliver high-quality industrial control solutions for customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts for custom industrial control panels
• Develop panel layouts that consider component spacing, heat dissipation, wire routing, safety, and serviceability
• Select electrical components including PLCs, HMIs, power supplies, motor starters, drives, circuit protection, relays, and terminals
• Create and maintain accurate bills of material (BOMs) aligned with sourcing and inventory standards
• Ensure designs comply with UL 508A, NEC, NFPA, and customer specifications
• Collaborate with panel shop technicians to support builds, answer questions, and resolve design-related issues
• Support sales and quoting activities by providing design input, component recommendations, and technical clarification
• Revise drawings based on engineering changes, customer feedback, or field modifications
• Maintain drawing standards, documentation, and revision control within the CAD system
• Assist with troubleshooting electrical and design issues during panel build, test, and startup phases

Required Experience

• Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or a related field
• 3 years of experience designing industrial control panels or electrical systems
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical CAD software
• Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical components and control systems
• Familiarity with UL 508A requirements and panel shop best practices
• Ability to interpret customer specifications, schematics, and electrical standards
• High attention to detail with strong organizational skills

Nice-to-Have Experience

• Experience working in a UL 508A-certified panel shop
• Familiarity with major automation platforms and components commonly supported by the organization
• Experience supporting custom, engineered-to-order panel solutions
• Background in industrial automation, manufacturing, or OEM environments
