COMMANDER
CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT
Training Division – Quinn Fire Academy

Starting Annual Salary: $138,612.00

Successful candidates must pass a drug screen and a background investigation. Persons offered employment must pass all pre-employment exams prior to appointment.
Under direction of the District Chief of Training and/or designee, assists in the management of the Quinn Chicago Fire Academy and performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
* Responsible for the supervision and discipline of subordinate personnel assigned or detailed to the Quinn Fire Academy of the Training Division.
* Develops schedules and coordinates training associated with candidates, Engineers, Lieutenants, Captains and Battalion Chiefs prior to promotion.
* Works under the direction of the Director of Training with Commanders of EMS Training and Field Training to ensure all training activities and schedules are coordinated and working harmoniously.
* Works closely with other CFD Bureaus and Divisions, other City departments, contracted security and building maintenance firms and other non-CFD agencies and firms to assure maintenance and security of the Quinn Fire Academy assets.
* Oversees the operations at the Fire Academy when the facility is used as a Secondary Command Post.
* Works with other Training Commanders to execute the development and production of all department training materials and the maintenance of training records.
Additional duties may be required for this position.

HOURS: 6:00 am – 2:00 pm (*occasional work required in the evenings and on weekends)

Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, Experience and Certifications
* Career Service status as a uniformed member of the Chicago Fire Department is required.
* Ten (10) years as a uniformed member of the Chicago Fire Department with a minimum career service rank of either Paramedic In-Charge, Fire Engineer (including EMT or Paramedic), Lieutenant (including EMT or Paramedic) or Captain (including EMT or Paramedic); depending upon technical/specialized assignment
* PLUS, a bachelor’s degree or higher AND one (1) year of specialized/technical work experience OR at least three (3) years of technical/specialized work experience in any of the following areas:
o office administration, fire prevention, emergency medical services operations, training, or HazMat incident response
NOTE: A valid state of Illinois Driver’s License is required
Required certifications
* Office of the State Fire Marshal: Fire Service Vehicle Operator (FSVO)
* Office of the State Fire Marshal Instructor II, Lead Instructor, or higher
* Vehicle and Machinery Operations (VMO) for the Office of the State Fire Marshal
