What you’ll do
You will lead and manage field and back-office operations across underground, aerial, fiber, wireless, splicing, and maintenance teams.
You will develop and execute strategic plans to optimize construction processes, workforce deployment, and resource utilization.
You will monitor KPIs related to project completion, productivity, financial performance, and quality metrics.
You will implement continuous improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency.
You will oversee high-profile telecom builds including fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), small cell, long-haul, and middle-mile projects.
You will coordinate with engineering, permitting, procurement, and client services to ensure smooth project execution.
You will support bidding, pricing, and forecasting efforts by providing field-driven operational insight.
You will hire, train, and mentor operational managers, project managers, foremen, and key field staff.
You will ensure staffing levels match workload demands and contractual obligations.
You will develop leadership talent pipelines and succession planning strategies.
You will serve as an executive sponsor for safety across all telecom operations.
You will foster a proactive, “zero incident” safety culture that values reporting, prevention, and continuous learning.
You will ensure safety is embedded in company values, onboarding, performance reviews, and rewards programs.
You will participate in the investigation and root cause analysis of serious incidents, utility strikes, and near misses.
You will approve corrective action plans and ensure lessons learned are disseminated across departments.
You will interface with legal, insurance, and regulatory bodies on risk mitigation and compliance matters.
You will ensure field personnel are certified and trained in required safety protocols (OSHA 10/30, CPR/First Aid, confined space, competent person, flagging, etc.).
You will support development of safety training materials and partner with the Safety Manager to schedule recurring education.
You will hold managers accountable for enforcing safety policies, conducting job hazard analyses, and leading tailgate meetings.
You will conduct periodic jobsite visits and executive-level safety walks with operations and safety staff.
You will engage directly with crews to reinforce safe behaviors and acknowledge safe work practices.
You will review jobsite safety audits, behavior observations, and compliance reports regularly.
You will set and enforce safety expectations for subcontractors and third-party vendors.
You will ensure vendor prequalification includes review of safety records, EMR, insurance, and training certifications.
You will monitor subcontractor performance and escalate repeat violations or non-compliance.
What you’ll need
You will need a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration or related field (Master’s preferred) relevant experience
You will need 10+ years of telecom, utility, or infrastructure operations experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership.
You will need proven experience managing large-scale projects and distributed teams.
You will need strong knowledge of telecom construction methods (aerial, UG, directional drilling, splicing).
You will need visionary leadership experience with the ability to build and scale high-performing teams.
You will need a deep understanding of field operations, safety protocols, and client expectations.
You will need excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
You will need proficiency in project management software, GIS tools, and construction tracking platforms.
You will need strong analytical skills and financial acumen.
You will need to be willing to perform jobsite visits in varied weather and environmental conditions.
