About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Backend Engineer to join our Music Discovery Platform team. In this role, you will lead the development and architecture of scalable, high-performance backend systems that power our music metadata services, recommendation engines, and search functionalities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, frontend developers, and data scientists to deliver seamless and innovative music discovery experiences. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in backend development, cloud-native architectures, and a passion for music and audio technologies.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in backend services development
• Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Node.js, Python, or Go
• Deep understanding of API design, microservices architecture, and cloud-native development
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure
• Expertise with containerization and orchestration tools including Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
• Knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL and BigQuery, caching strategies, and message queues like Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and security standards
• Familiarity with music metadata standards, recommendation systems, or streaming APIs is a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop robust, scalable, and secure APIs for music catalog management, search, and recommendation services
• Design data models and manage integrations with third-party music metadata providers, streaming services, and analytics platforms
• Lead backend engineering initiatives, establish coding standards, review code, and mentor junior engineers
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and data teams to define API specifications and ensure seamless user experiences
• Optimize backend service performance to achieve low latency and high availability
• Implement observability tools for system monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure reliability and uptime
• Evaluate and incorporate new technologies and frameworks to enhance system capabilities and development velocity
• Ensure adherence to security best practices and compliance requirements across all backend systems
