About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Revenue Cycle and Credentialing Manager with Athena experience to own and optimize our billing and payer operations from end to end. This is a builder role for someone who enjoys designing systems, tightening workflows, and getting into the details of claims, denials, credentialing, and reporting.

You will work directly with the owner and leadership team, and you will collaborate with front office staff and NPs to keep the entire revenue cycle aligned. If you like being the person who “knows how it all fits together” and you enjoy teaching others how to do things the right way, you will fit in well here.

You will be responsible for:

• Building and refining revenue cycle workflows inside Athena, including front end and back end steps
• Managing claims submission, payment posting, denials, and appeals
• Monitoring AR, aging, and key metrics, and proposing concrete improvements
• Assisting with insurance verification and eligibility checks to reduce front-end errors
• Managing provider credentialing and re-credentialing with payers, including applications, follow up, and status tracking
• Tracking NP licensure, DEA, and payer enrollment expirations and keeping leadership informed in advance
• Working closely with leadership and clinical staff to improve charge capture, coding accuracy, and clean claims
• Creating simple, repeatable processes and documentation that support future growth and additional team members

This role is ideal for someone who wants to grow with a practice and become the go-to person for the financial and payer health of the back end.

About You:

• Have 2–3+ years of direct experience with Athena in a billing, RCM, or practice operations role
• Have strong knowledge of medical billing, insurance verification, claims, denials, and payer follow up
• Have experience with provider credentialing, payer enrollment, and tracking licensure or are confident you can take ownership of these areas quickly
• Are comfortable working independently, setting priorities, and reporting clearly to leadership
• Enjoy creating order, building systems, and improving existing workflows
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with both clinical and non-clinical team members
• Are detail oriented, reliable, and motivated by clean numbers, low AR, and on-time credentialing
• Appreciate a culture where people are kind, direct, and solutions focused rather than blame focused

Experience with behavioral health or multi-state telehealth is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities:

• Configure and optimize Athena workflows related to scheduling, eligibility, charge capture, and claims
• Oversee daily claims processing, payment posting, and reconciliation
• Work denials and rejections, identify patterns, and implement fixes at the system level
• Track KPIs such as clean claim rate, days in AR, and collection percentages and share regular reports with leadership
• Assist with insurance verification and benefits checks, and help refine front-end workflows to reduce eligibility issues
• Coordinate and track provider credentialing and re-credentialing with payers, including applications, documentation, and follow up
• Maintain an organized system for NP licensure, DEA, and payer enrollment dates and alert leadership ahead of expirations
• Partner with front office staff to reduce errors at intake and improve data quality
• Create clear SOPs so processes are consistent, teachable, and scalable

Requirements:

• Previous hands-on Athena experience in a billing or RCM role
• Strong understanding of medical billing practices, modifiers, and payer rules
• Experience with denials management and payer follow up
• Experience with, or strong interest in, provider credentialing and licensure tracking
• Proficiency in spreadsheets and basic reporting
• Reliable internet and ability to work in a secure, HIPAA compliant environment

Remote position, with potential for hybrid if local.
