Research Assistant – Neuroscience and Pharmacology (Jay Lab) Full Time NEW

In the Jay lab, we study how our brains are constructed, maintained and changed in the contexts of learning, aging and disease. We are curious about the different cells that contribute to this process and the molecules that those cells use to represent and share information in the brain. We are looking to hire a candidate to support ongoing projects related to this area, and as they are able to grow in independence, to develop and manage their own project related to this research topic. The candidate will gain experience in genetics, cutting-edge imaging techniques, and fundamental molecular biology and biochemistry skills.

Duties To Include

• Research: Perform research activities based upon established protocols, troubleshoot and establish new protocols as needed. Seek out and analyze literature to develop hypotheses. Adhere to safety, compliance and research integrity guidelines.
• Project Management: Establish weekly goals in collaboration with the principal investigator and prepare weekly progress reports; arrange and plan daily activities independently.
• Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts: Collect, record and organize data in a lab notebook; analyze data; synthesize data and contribute to manuscripts, grant applications, and grant progress reports. Present data orally at lab meetings and at research conferences.
• Administrative Duties: Participate in various activities to support the lab as directed; assist other researchers in the lab with aspects of their projects as assigned.
• Facilities and Equipment Management: Assist in the preparation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory and facility equipment. Work with company representatives as needed to facilitate equipment maintenance and repairs.

Required Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in a biomedical related field, other related science program, or equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience in a research laboratory environment
• Ability to maintain a highly-organized, consistent, systematic, and detail-oriented approach
• Ability to work independently while being accountable and efficient with time management
• Experience in a relevant research laboratory environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills
• Experience with Microsoft Office
• Can manage complex projects, organize their schedule to conduct experiments efficiently; can prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrates the flexibility to change those priorities as needed
• Has the ability to work well with the team; consistently demonstrates respect and professionalism; is willing to devote effort to creating a community within the lab that supports and celebrates every member’s growth and development

Desirable Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences in written and oral formats; willingness to practice and improve these skills
• Coursework or work experience in a relevant scientific field
• Experience working in a wet-lab setting
• Consistently meets deadlines and honors commitments
• Ability to receive feedback and incorporate that feedback to improve
