The Waterville Sewerage District is recruiting for an Equipment Operator. Depending on qualifications, this position could begin as an Equipment Operator or as a Skilled Equipment Operator (see details below).
The Waterville Sewerage District, established in 1949, owns and operates the public sanitary sewer and storm sewer collection systems in Waterville, Maine. An independent Board of Commissioners oversees the system and represents the interest of its customers.

The Equipment Operator operates the majority of the District’s equipment, including an excavator, backhoe, dump truck, skid steer, rodding machine, and vacuum truck (but not as the primary operator of the latter). This position will be the primary excavator or backhoe operator when there is work to do, primarily in spring, summer and fall, and when not needed in these roles, will operate other equipment and work as a general laborer as needed.
Hours are generally 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with limited overtime (generally just in the case of emergencies). The Equipment Operator will participate in a rotating schedule for on call, one week of every 6 weeks.
Qualifications needed for this position include: at least a Class B license (or willingness to obtain it within 6 months or hire) for the Equipment Operator position, or a Class A license for the Skilled Operator position. At least two years of equipment operator experience in a construction or sewerage operation and a good safety record with equipment operation required; experience with installation of pipes and manholes preferred. The successful candidate must be able to pass a physical prior to employment.
