Sports Checkout is building technology-driven tools to support custom sportswear design, ordering, and fulfillment.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Backend AI Engineer located in Media, PA. The engineer will help build and maintain backend systems for an AI-powered custom T-shirt and sportswear design platform. The role involves developing APIs, integrating AI models for text and image generation, managing design assets, working with databases and cloud storage, and ensuring reliable backend workflows for image editing, customisation, and order processing.

The engineer will collaborate with product, design, and business teams to create scalable software solutions that support personalized sportswear and event merchandise.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in backend software development using Python
• Experience building REST APIs and backend services
• Experience integrating AI models or APIs such as OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, or similar
• Understanding of AI use cases such as slogan/text generation, image generation, and image editing
• Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL or similar
• Experience with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, CloudWatch/Metrics, or similar
• Ability to work with image/design assets, file storage, and backend processing workflows
• Strong debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in an on-site startup/business environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AI-powered design tools, e-commerce, sportswear, merchandise, or print-on-demand platforms
• Familiarity with image processing, background removal, or design file generation
• Basic understanding of frontend integration is a plus, but not required
